Shan Siddiqi
Dr. Siddiqi is a neuropsychiatrist whose research is focused on causal mapping of human brain function and dysfunction. Using techniques such as functional connectivity MRI, his lab maps brain circuits to link brain lesions and brain stimulation sites that can modify different psychiatric symptoms. These circuits can then be targeted with treatments such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and deep brain stimulation (DBS) to alleviate symptoms in psychiatric disorders.
Methods employed in the lab include computational analysis of neuroimaging and stimulation data, clinical trials ofbrain stimulation techniques, and careful clinical phenotyping. We also collaborate closely with other labs in the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics, each of which has a slightly different focus. We also have data sharing collaborations with many labs worldwide. We commonly bring together datasets from different studies and re-analyze them to answer causal questions. When the right dataset doesn't yet exist, we sometimes launch our own clinical trials.
