We are an interdisciplinary team of neurologists, neuroscientists, engineers, and rehabilitation scientists working together to improve recovery for patients after stroke. New therapies are urgently needed to cure the staggering worldwide disability that results from stroke. The clinical neuroscience of recovery after stroke remains unknown. We are on a mission to understand the neuroanatomic and neurophysiologic mechanisms underlying stroke recovery so that we can develop effective treatments to enhance rehabilitation. Our central focus is upper extremity movement after stroke. We apply a combination of tools— quantitative analysis of movement, neuroimaging, and brain stimulation— to better understand post-stroke motor system injury and its functional consequences. We are grounded in neuroscience and focused on clinical translation.
