We emphasize curiosity-driven science and exploration, using comparative approaches featuring a range of unusual and specialized organisms that are uniquely suited to understanding particular biological processes. Examples of projects in the lab include efforts to understand the origin of novel sensory organs using unusual fish-with-legs called sea robins as a model, and exploring the origins of novel organelles in photosynthetic sea slugs.
